Who Can Apply: US Citizens – Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors – All Majors – GPA of 3.0 or higher recommended – All Majors

IMPORTANT: All Gilman applicants MUST be Pell Grant recipients or be eligible for a Pell Grant during the planned semester or year of study abroad.

IMPORTANT: Study Abroad programs must involve at least 4 weeks in a single country to be eligible (programs may involve more than one country if at least 4 weeks are spent in a single country).

IMPORTANT: Only science/engineering/math majors are eligible for Summer study abroad programs.

Description: The Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies abroad. Such international study is intended to better prepare U.S. students to assume significant roles in an increasingly global economy and interdependent world. The scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grants.

IMPORTANT: Students who apply for and receive the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad are now eligible to receive an additional $3,000 Critical Need Language Supplement from the Gilman Program if their study abroad plans involve studying any of the following critical languages: Arabic (all dialects), Chinese (all dialects), Turkish, Persian, Languages of India and Pakistan, Korean, Russian

Program Preferences: The Gilman scholarship aims to support a diverse range of students who have been traditionally under-represented in study abroad, including but not limited to:

• students with high financial need,
• students interested in studying in diverse countries, especially those outside of Western Europe and Australia,
• students with diverse ethnic backgrounds; and
• students with disabilities.

Award Amount: Over 1,200 scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded this academic year for U.S. citizen undergraduates to study abroad. Award amounts will vary depending on the length of study and student need with the average award being $4,000.

Forté Foundation Fellowships
Funded by: The Forté Foundation.
Open to: All successful female MBA applicants.
Award: up to £20,000
Application Format: Candidates who apply in Stages 1, 2 or 3 and receivein receipt of an offer for the class of MBA2012 will be automatically considered for these awards.

The British Women Pilots' Association Scholarships

The British Women Pilots' Association is pleased to distribute the careers guide jointly written and produced by The Guild of Air Pilots and Navigators (GAPAN) and the Royal Aeronautical Society.

The careers guide is written for both men and women and is distributed as part of the association's on-going commitment to promote aviation, both as a career and to those wishing to fly for personal enjoyment

Scholarships

A number of scholarships are available each year to women who wish to learn to fly or improve their skills. Some are open only to women and others are open to both men and women. The BWPA scholarships are :-

Flying Scholarship

The BWPA gives a scholarship annually to a young woman between the ages of 17 and 26 years and is offered for between 12 and 15 hours of flying training towards the award of a National Private Pilot’s Licence. The award is open to young people permanently resident in the United Kingdom who will have reached their seventeenth but not their twenty sixth birthday on the 1st April in the year the scholarship is flown. The Air League administers the scholarship on the Association’s behalf and the application process is open annually from September until the closing date of 31st January. Application forms are available for download from the Air League website, www.airleague.co.uk, or can be requested by emailing scholarships@airleague.co.uk or ringing 020 7222 8463

Flying Bursary

The BWPA gives a bursary annually to a woman who already holds a PPL and is offered for between 5 and 8 hours of advanced flying training. Applicants must be permanently resident in the United Kingdom and there is no age restriction. The Air League administers the bursary on the Association’s behalf and the closing date for applications is the last day of February. Application forms are available from the Air League as above.

In addition, the BWPA gives a year’s free membership of the Association to all scholarship and bursary winners.

The Air League offers a wide range of flying scholarships, including for ballooning and aerobatics, and also scholarships for engineering. Full details are available on the Air League website.

Military Commanders Scholarship Fund

Military Commanders Scholarship Fund: The New York Chapter of the American Logistics Association sponsors up to five $5,000 scholarships for dependent children of active duty, reserve, National Guard or retired members of the United States military who hold valid Exchange & Commissary shopping privileges at the time of application. Applicants must be high school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll for the first time in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in fall, 2010. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent. Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal. Financial need will also be considered.

Year 7 Foundation Scholarships

The Foundation Scholarship is offered by The Southport School Foundation and is open only to boys currently in Year 6 who are currently not attending TSS and who would be unable to attend TSS without scholarship support. This scholarship offers part remission of fees for Year 7 to Year 12. This scholarship is awarded to boys who are well-rounded students and able to contribute to the general life of the school. Applicants are selected for an interview based on the application and supporting documentation. The Headmaster may require family income information to assess financial need.
Deadline for applications is 26 March, 2010.

Academic Scholarship Application Requirements

If you are interested in having your child sit for an Academic Scholarship, please register by following the procedure outlined below, no later than February 21, 2010. The scholarship examination will be held on February 26, 2010 at the Senior School clocktower building, beginning at 8.45am and finishing at approximately 12 noon. The scholarship application fee is $90.
